Seasons - Autumn and Winter As of May 29, 2017
Autumn color begins during the last part of September and peaks about the third week of October. What causes the color changes in leaves as well as bark is a chemical reaction as the trees and shrubs begin to "drain" the chlorophyll from the leaves back into the root system. The Chlorophyll is what makes leaves green in most species. It is also what cleanses the air and absorbs carbon monoxide and turns that into oxygen which is what humans and animals breath for life.

Autumn leaf color is a phenomenon that affects the normally green leaves of many deciduous trees and shrubs by which they take on, during a few weeks in the autumn season, various shades of red, yellow, purple, black, orange, pink, magenta, blue and brown.

Winter Splendor. Brrrr it is cold outside when the temps begin to drop below 50 degrees Fahrenheit. When the temperature falls to around 32 degrees Fahrenheit or 0 degrees Celsius, that's when the wonders of winter begin. When it "rains", the water droplets crystalize in the cold atmosphere and turn into snow flakes. In certain situations, those flakes glisten and produce a beauty which lasts only a short time. I capture the beauty and that's what this Gallery is about.

There's something magical about winter. Maybe because, like magic, it produces glorious scenes which soon disappear when the sun begins to warm the air. Much like a magic trick, one second you see it and then it's only a memory.

Some areas of our world have no winters because they are too close to the Equator where it is warm all the time. For instance, Hawaii only has snow on the Big Island and then ONLY at the top of a few of the higher elevations of its mountains. A rarity yet it does happen depending how the Pacific winds react to the Jet Stream. Other places like the North and South Poles have winter year around as well as lots of snow and ice. Soon, however, due to global warming, the North and South poles will be only frigid water because the snow and ice are slowly melting. Maybe within in the next 100 years all that snow and ice will only be memories.
